The Pre-Sentence Investigation Report (PSI Report) is one of the most important documents other than "physical evidence" in our criminal justice system.
This report provides the sentencing judges proper information about your criminal history, your personal life as it surrounds your alleged crime. This document is to assist the sentencing judge in determining your length of sentence once convicted.
By providing the sentencing judge enough information about you, would aid in tailoring a punishment or potential rehabilitation. This "information gathering" falls squarely on the shoulders of the probation officer who investigates your claims of what happened and what you have done in the past - as well - what you plan on doing in the future. This last statement is quite important.
